AMTRAK/MARC DELAYS
Amtrak has halted all train service between Baltimore and Washington, including MARC Penn Line trains, due to a major water main break in in Baltimore County. Baltimore Public Works spokesman Kurt Kocher says a 36-inch water main broke in the 5100 block of Washington Boulevard in the Halethorpe area, north of the BWI Marshall Airport station. UMEMPLOYMENT DOWN IN REGION
Unemployment in the D.C. area dropped slightly in March, inching down to 5.9 percent, but still way up from 3.3 percent in March 2008, according to the latest numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. (Washington Business Journal)

MORE METRO TO BETHESDA
A Montgomery County councilman believes adding additional stations along the Metro Red Line should be considered to ease traffic along Rockville Pike. Councilman Roger Berliner, in a Monday letter to the State Highway Administration, asked it to investigate the "economic feasibility" of adding one or more Metro stations in the White Flint area, which currently has one Metro station. Berliner said his proposal would include the area from the Grosvenor-Strathmore station to the White Flint station, which he said was "poorly named" because it did not serve White Flint well. TRANSGENDER WOMAN WINS SUIT
A federal judge yesterday awarded a former special forces commander $491,190 in back pay and damages because officials with the Library of Congress discriminated against her when they rescinded a job offer after learning she was transitioning from being a man to being a woman.  (Washington Post)

STUDENT ROBBED IN BACKYARD
A 19-year-old University of Maryland student was robbed at gunpoint last night as she sat in the backyard of a home on Rhode Island Avenue, University Police said. The student was working on her laptop in the backyard of a house on the 8300 block of Rhode Island Avenue at 8:38 p.m. when a man jumped the surrounding 4-foot fence and asked for directions. He then produced a gun, grabbed the student's laptop and fled the scene. The student then called authorities. (Diamondback)

BUD BUST
A case of beer turned out to be costly for a Locust Grove man Sunday, police said. Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the theft of the beer occurred about 6:40 p.m. at the Wawa at 1140 Carl D. Silver Parkway. An employee said the suspect grabbed a case of Bud Light and ran from the store. He was then seen leaving in a burgundy Chrysler. (Free Lance Star)
