ICC Sees Drop in Drivers on First Pay Day

Fewer vehicles for highway's first toll day

The toll-free โ€œpreviewโ€ of the new Intercounty Connector may not have been a great predictor of traffic on the new highway.

On its first day of charging, the ICC saw a big drop in drivers.

Maryland transportation officials said about 2,100 vehicles traveled the ICC during the Monday morning rush. Thatโ€™s down from 5,500 who traveled during peak hours when the trip was free.

Traveling the seven-mile stretch between Gaithersburg and Olney will cost you $1.45 during the morning and evening rush.

Once the ICC is completed, it will span more than 18 miles and connect Interstate 270 and Interstate 95 in Laurel.
