Georgetown University has some advice for students: if you're out at night, walk in groups.
Police patrols have been stepped up around the university's campus, after someone sexually assaulted a female student early Sunday. The school recommends that any students who find themselves alone in the evening should call campus security to get an escort or to arrange a ride with a shuttle bus.
Police said the victim was walking alone around 2:15am near the intersection of 36th and N streets when she was attacked.
According to investigators, the suspect is a white male, 18-22 years old, with short brown hair, 5-11" to 6' tall, wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans. Police said he remains at large.
The location where the assault happened is just a block off campus and has raised concern among many female students.
Georgetown University says that it has increased the number of campus security officers patrolling the neighborhood, and also hired off-duty officers to provide additional security.
The university reminds students that escorts are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the the Department of Public Safety. They can be arranged for by calling 202-687-4343.
