Five people were taken to the hospital after a fire at a Springfield, Va., apartment complex Thursday night.
Fairfax County fire officials say 13 residents were evaluated at the scene, located in the 6100 block of Backlick Road. All five patients transported to the hospital suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Improperly disposed smoking material was cited as the cause of the fire.
Fire officials say the fire caused $30,000 in damage.
