Tree Crash That Killed Woman in Virginia ‘Incredibly Rare,' Firefighters Say

A 60-foot tree crashed onto a home in Fairfax County Monday night, killing a woman inside.

Beverly Krizanovic, 63, was fatally injured when the tree fell through the roof and onto the second floor of a Burke, Virginia home.

Her husband was nearby but survived. The tree crushed a quarter of the home on the second floor, said Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Willie Bailey.

Severe downpours in the D.C. region likely caused the tree to fall onto the single-family home in the 5900 block of Burnside Landing Drive in Burke, Virginia.

"Obviously with all the rain in the past couple of days, the roots of these trees have really loosened up," Bailey said.

Rescuers responded to the home about 8:30 p.m.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue was in the process of stabilizing the house before they could get out the body of the woman.

This accident was incredibly rare, Bailey said.
