A former FBI agent is going on trial for a third time on charges stemming from the fatal shooting of his wife.
Arthur B. Gonzales' first two trials in Stafford Circuit Court ended in mistrials when jurors couldn't reach a unanimous decision. The Free Lance-Star reports that the third proceeding will be a bench trial.
The third trial is scheduled to begin Monday.
Gonzales testified previously that he shot his wife, 42-year-old Julie Gonzales, in self-defense after she attacked him during an argument in April 2013. Prosecutors say Gonzales staged the crime scene.
Gonzales is charged with voluntary manslaughter. He previously was tried on a second-degree murder charge.
At the time of his wife's death, Gonzales was working for the FBI at Quantico.
