The disabled woman who was critically injured after a fire trapped her inside her house last week has died, authorities said Monday.
Emily Novotny, 74, and her daughter were inside their Riverdale, Maryland, home when the fire started about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 23. Novotny's daughter was able to get out of the home safely, but firefighters had to rescue Novotny.
The victim's daughter was treated for minor injuries, but Novotny was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation and burn injuries. She died Sunday afternoon, according to fire officials.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it appears to be accidental.
According to officials, this is the ninth fire fatality due to accidental causes in Prince George's County this year.
