When the Intercounty Connector is finally built, you'll have to dig pretty far into your pockets to actually use it.
The Maryland Transportation Board approved new toll rates for the highway on Thursday. It includes rates ranging from 20 to 35 cents per mile, for all two-axle vehicles. The higher rate would be charged during the peak hours of 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The toll would make the ICC the first variably priced toll facility in Maryland.
The maximum toll for two-axle vehicles would work out to around $6.15 each way. Five-axle trucks would pay up to $36.85 to travel the highway each way during rush hour. The rates will make it the highest toll in our region, and one of the highest in the nation.
The 18.8-mile highway is currently being constructed between Gaithersburg and Laurel. It's expected to be completed by 2011.
