Looks Like He Didn't Win Powerball After All

VDOT worker had been shown on surveillance cameras telling store clerks he won

Arizona lottery officials said the second winner of last month's record Powerball jackpot was a man who lives in Fountain Hill, Az. - apparently not a man who was widely pictured claiming he won while in an Upper Marlboro Exxon.

The lottery officials did not name the winner, but said he was a Fountain Hills resident who had recently moved from Pennsylvania.

The local man, a VDOT worker, drew attention after he was pictured in surveillance video telling clerks at an Exxon in Upper Marlboro that he had bought the winning ticket while on a trip to Arizona. He is shown exclaiming and showing something to others in the store. Store clerks also said they saw what appeared to be a winning ticket.

However, News4 had tried several times to contact the man, who continued to report to his job each day. He avoided our cameras and never made any other comment.

Two tickets won the $587.5 million jackpot last month, one in Arizona and one in Missouri. It was the largest in in the game's history.

Lottery officials in Missouri named a couple from Dearborn, Cindy and Mark Hill, as the jackpot winners there.

"I called my husband [Mark] and told him, 'I think I am having a heart attack. I think we just won the lottery!'" said Cindy Hill, 51, according to a Missouri Lottery press release.

The Hills are high school sweethearts who have three grown children and an adopted six-year-old daughter. They say they may adopt again now, and will spend time traveling with their family.

Cindy Hill was an office manager until she was laid off in 2010; Mark works as a mechanic.

The odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 175 million.

Closer to home, four $1 million tickets were sold in Virginia, including one sold at a 7-Eleven in Arlington. Those tickets had five of the winning numbers (5, 16, 22, 23, 29), but didn't include the Powerball number (6).
