An elementary school in Fort Washington, Md., was without water on the first day of school following a water main break.

All all lanes of Brinkley Road from Fisher Road to Glen Rock Avenue were closed.

Kimberly Knox, a spokeswoman for the Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission, said the 10-inch break was reported about 5 a.m. Monday in the 2600 block of Brinkley Road in Temple Hills. It is affected water service to about 100 customers, including J. Frank Dent Elementary School in Fort Washington.

Water was restored Monday evening while crews continue to work on the break.

Knox said a motorcyclist crashed through a barricade at the scene. Police said the motorcyclist suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

WSSC said there is no estimated time for a resumption of water service.
