Damaged Amtrak Car Causes Delays

Service on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and Maryland commuter trains are being affected after an accident involving an Amtrak rail car.

Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Brooks says the rear car of a New York-bound train was damaged Friday night after a wheel lost contact with the track in Odenton. One hundred nine passengers were offloaded and boarded another train to finish their journey. No one was injured.

Brooks says the damaged railcar is still on the tracks, which is causing some delays in the area. Crews will be inspecting the tracks, investigating the cause of the accident and removing the damaged railcar.

In addition, the Maryland Transit Administration says its MARC commuter trains will not stop at the Odenton and Bowie State stations all weekend.
