The former mayor of Front Royal, Virginia, has been cleared of charges that he solicited a prostitute.
Hollis Tharpe was accused of soliciting a prostitute in May 2018. The case recently was dropped, the court confirmed to News4 on Tuesday.
Tharpe resigned after he was indicted this April.
He denied any wrongdoing and said the charges stemmed from two visits he made to a massage parlor in Front Royal. Warren County prosecutors did not responded to a request for comment at the time.
In April, Tharpe told News4 he learned in 2018 that the masseuse was arrested on prostitution charges six days after his final visit.
He said the situation was "embarrassing and the charges are baseless." He said investigators were "only doing this because I got the mayor title."
On his personal Facebook page, Tharpe wrote Monday, "My nightmare is OVER!!!!"
