Window coverings with cords pose a strangulation risk to children, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Tuesday, the CPSC announced Blinds To Go voluntarily recalled about 200,000 custom-made window shades.
“The shade’s chain or cord loop can slip out of the hold-down device posing a strangulation hazard for small children”, said the CPSC.
The recall involves custom-made roller shades with Sidewinders, Smartlift pleated and cellular shades, Panel Tracks shades, and Serenity Shades.
The product was sold exclusively at Blinds To Go Showrooms and online.
Consumers are instructed to contact the company to order a free retrofit kit that includes a new hold device and instructions on how to replace the recalled part. You can reach Customer Service at (800) 254-6377 or here http://www.blindstogo.com/en/child-safety-update.
No injuries associated with these products have been reported.
The CPSC estimates one child dies every month by strangling in a window covering cord.
