The American Forum's Jane Hall recently sat down with civil rights leader Julian Bond for a town hall at American University to discuss numerous issues, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial dedication.
Bond has been a social activist and a civil-rights leader since he was a college student in the South in the 1960s. Bond studied with King; and he was a founder of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, which played a major role in civil-rights marches, Freedom Rides and voter-registration drives in the 1960s.
Bond is chairman emeritus of the NAACP and an author, poet and professor.
As the country prepares to dedicate a memorial to Martin Luther King, Bond engaged with American University students and Hall about King's legacy and how the civil-rights movement connects to young people today.
