Woman Hit by Van in Wheaton Dies

The 52-year-old Beltsville woman critically injured when she was struck by a van in Wheaton Thursday morning has died.

According to Montgomery County police, Mary Josephine Fish was standing at a median on the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Georgia Avenue at approximately 9 a.m. Fish was holding a hand-made sign, about 200 yards from a WMATA metro station.

Police say the driver of a Honda Accord traveling southbound on Veirs Mill Road made an unsafe lane change from the middle lane to the left lane and struck and a Nissan van also traveling southbound. The Nissan, an electrician's van, then prpoelled onto the curb, striking Fish.

"Charges are pending at this point," Capt. Jim Daly with Montgomery County Police said. "Detectives from the collision reconstruction unit [were] on the scene."

The two cars involved in the accident had minor damage. The driver of the Honda has been identified as Felicitas Cayo Carpio, 37, of Silver Spring. Eric Seeling, 26, of Hampstead, Md. was driving the Nissan. Neither driver was injured.
