Want Some Stimulus Cash? Click Here

How to influence your government leaders

WASHINGTON --  No, this isn't one of those e-mail scams asking for your checking account number so some kind people can deposit a stimulus check in your bank.

If you really want to have a say in where the cash goes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the District, Maryland and Virginia have all set up Web sites so residents can submit ideas when the federal government shows us the money.

The federal stimulus bill was created with the idea of jumpstarting the economy, producing jobs and providing funds to state and local governments.

How all of that money is exactly spent, however, is up to the states and local governments.

On the D.C. site, for example, there is a direct link to a page where you can submit your ideas. Just fill out the form and, bam, off it goes into cyberspace, hopefully to be read by an actual person.

Same thing on the Virginia site. The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday. To enter, go to the site, give your e-mail address and you will be sent a link to an online form.

In Maryland, there doesn't appear to be an actual form to fill out, but instead there are workshops that local leaders can attend.

In any case, there appears to be money out there, and if you have the right pitch, you may be able to benefit.
