The Vitamin Shoppe Inc. is planning to open a distribution center in Hanover County, Va., creating nearly 175 jobs.
Gov. Bob McDonnell said Friday that the New Jersey-based company will lease a yet-to-be-constructed building in Ashland for the operation. The project is estimated to be a commitment of $39.4 million.
Officials say with the establishment of the distribution center, the Vitamin Shoppe will immediately become one of Ashland's largest employers.
The company sells nutritional products through more than 550 company-owned retail stores, mail order and online.
McDonnell approved a $200,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project.
