An apparent pipe bomb found in a residential area turned out to be a hoax, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.
Chief Fire Marshal Ben Barksdale said Friday that a bomb team destroyed the device and found that it contained no explosive material.
The suspicious package was reported Friday morning in the 3100 block of South 17th Street.
