Several Evaluated After Acid Spill at D.C. Aquatic Center

Source of spill unknown

D.C. Fire and EMS went to the William H. Rumsey Aquatic Center Monday evening after several people were overcome by a chemical odor.

Seven adults and two children were evaluated at the center near Eastern Market in the 600 block of North Carolina Avenue SE. One adult was taken to a hospital.

Authorities believe the odor was caused by a muriatic acid spill. It’s unknown how that occurred. The source has not been found.
