Red Line Closures Planned for Weekend

Shuttles will run between Dupont and NoMa-Gallaudet stations

Metro announced earlier this week that a section on the Red Line will close this weekend for the installation of fiber optic cable to improve wireless communications, as well as track maintenance and third rail upgrades  between Dupont Circle and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations.

While the Metro Center and Gallery Place stations will remain open for non-Red Line service, passengers should be aware of planned maintenance on the Orange and Yellow lines.

Single tracking between Huntington and Braddock Road will cause 10- to 15-minute delays on the Yellow line, due to “structural repairs, grout pad rehabilitation and drain cleaning.”

Single tracking on the Orange Line will cause 24-minute delays due to Silver Line testing between East and West Falls Church stations, and platform reconstruction between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly stations.

Trains are expected to run every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., then return to regular weekend intervals until closing Sunday, September 9th.

Metro notes shuttle users should add 30 to 50 minutes to their travel time.

The last Red Line train from Shady Grove to Dupont Circle will leave 30 minutes earlier on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and the final train from Glenmont to NoMa-Gallaudet U will depart 41 minutes earlier this weekend.
