A lost woman who is deaf asked a man for help finding an address earlier this month. Police said he led her to a secluded area and tried to sexually assault her.

The woman became lost after getting off a bus in Prince George's County, Maryland, after 10 p.m. Aug. 14. She asked a man for help, pointing to an address on a piece of paper.

He escorted her for about half a mile near Walters Lane and Pennsylvania Avenue in District Heights before dragging her into a wooded area and trying to sexually assault her, according to Prince George’s County police.

The woman fought him off. He hit her several times, injuring her, but she managed to get away and flag down an officer.

    The suspect fled the scene.

Police went door-to-door Thursday night along the walk the man took the victim, sharing a sketch of the attacker.

“It’s so important to discuss this, because here we have a person not from this country, who is deaf, asking a citizen for help, and that’s the end result,” Prince George’s County police Capt. Nicholas Collins said.

The victim described the suspect as a black man with shoulder-length dreadlocks, 27-to-35 years old, and between 5-feet-7-inches and 5-feet-9-inches tall. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a white shirt, black cargo pants, black shoes and glasses, police said.

Anyone with information about the case should contact Prince George’s County police.
