Hope Fades to Find Missing Boater Alive

Authorities in Fairfax County resumed a search Sunday for a 65-year-old woman who went missing.

Authorities searched in Fountain Head Regional Park and were forced to divert a race to conduct the search.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue spokesman Capt. Willie Bailey said authorities began searching for the woman around 6:30 p.m. Saturday and found the woman's scull boat in the water. Authorities suspended the water search about an hour after it got dark Saturday.

They were continuing to search on land.

The search was suspended again for darkness Sunday night. It changed from a rescue mission to a recovery mission Monday.

Police didn't release the woman's name. Bailey says the woman's car was still in the park's parking lot. She was an avid rower, according to Bailey.
