Man Fatally Struck After Falling Out of SUV, Police Say

Prince George's County police are searching for two drivers who left the scene after a man fell out of one of the vehicles and was fatally struck.

Officers were called to the 3300 block of East-West Highway in Hyattsville at 3:55 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person in the roadway. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the victim was a passenger inside a white SUV that was stopped at a red light on East-West Highway. When the light turned green, the SUV started driving through the intersection erratically. Moments later, police say the SUV struck a Honda Civic and a sign. At some point during the collisions, investigators believe the victim fell out of a passenger-side window and landed in the road. The driver of the Honda Civic was checking on the man's condition when a red sedan that had been behind the SUV ran over him.

Police say the SUV and the red sedan both left the scene.

Authorities say the SUV may be missing its front grille and may have scratches or damage to the bumper. The red sedan also has front bumper damage and could be missing parts of its front bumper or quarter panel.

Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call 301-731-4422.
