Passenger in Deadly Crash Arrested

Teen charged with theft

A passenger in a fiery crash last month in Chevy Chase, Md., faces criminal charges.

Police arrested Reeco Richardson, 18, of northeast D.C. Tuesday on multiple charges, including theft and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

Investigators said Richardson was riding in a stolen car in the early hours of March 23. A police officer noticed the vehicle near Connecticut Avenue and East West Highway and started to pursue it. The driver reportedly sped up and the car slammed into a tree at Chevy Chase Circle, bursting into flames.

Officers were able to pull Richardson and 16-year-old Reymard Osman from the fiery wreck. Two other passengers, Emanuel Nelson, 16, and Tyree Nelson, 14, both died. Osman was transported to an area hospital where he passed away several days later.

Richardson was released Tuesday night on his own recognizance.
