County's Garbage Collection Goes Green

Montgomery County, Md., trash collectors are cleaning up their act.

The county is the first in the state to convert its solid waste collection fleet to compressed natural gas vehicles known as CNGs.

The announcement was made Thursday morning in Rockville.

The "green fleet" of trash and recycling trucks will have labels on them.

CNG trucks are environmentally friendly because they reduce fuel costs and emissions.

The trucks are also quieter than diesel garbage trucks.
