A Virginia man who disappeared days before he was scheduled to graduate from Howard University has been found safe at a campground near Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

Lance Calvin Buckley, 33, of Stafford County, had been last seen by his family early Tuesday in the Staffordboro Commuter Lot in Stafford, Virginia.

Police said Buckley "slugged" to commute to Howard University, getting a ride with strangers in order to ride in high-occupancy vehicle lanes.

He was supposed to pick up graduation materials, having completed a PhD at the university. Photos showed him using an ATM Tuesday morning at Howard University, and authorities said Buckley sent a text message to his wife at 10:16 a.m., but he failed to show up for a meeting at noon.

On Wednesday, his phone was briefly electronically located in Blockhouse Point Conservation Park near Darnestown, Maryland. Montgomery County Police searched the area earlier this week without finding him.

Buckley was found in good condition in Frederick County on Friday, said the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. The Brunswick Police Department and rangers from the National Park Service found him at the Brunswick Family Campground near Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia.

Officers had responded to the area after receiving tips that someone meeting Buckley’s description was seen in the area.

"We are truly pleased that Mr. Buckley was found safe and in good condition," Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett said in a release. The sheriff's office did not give out any other information about why Buckley had been missing.

Buckley has two small daughters, a newborn and a three-year-old.
