Md. Cuts MARC, Commuter Bus Routes to Save Money

Total of 21 route could be cut

BALTIMORE -- Transit officials say the budget cuts could mean the end of 12 Maryland commuter bus routes and nine MARC train-related services by January.

The Maryland Transit Administration announced Thursday that it could cut bus service from Columbia, Laurel and Harford County to Baltimore. Service could decrease between Waldorf and the Suitland Metrorail Station, Annapolis and the New Carrollton Metrorail Station and Columbia and Washington D.C.

Since July 1, officials say revenues for both services declined dramatically.

For buses and MARC trains, there wouldn't be service on and around some holidays. Other proposed MARC changes include fewer trips on the Penn and Brunswick lines and fewer shuttles between Odenton and Laurel.

MTA officials say most proposed cuts are in administration.
