Maryland Mulling Scooter Helmet Law

Senate to vote on measure today

You may soon have to wear a helmet to take a spin on a scooter in Maryland.

The Senate is expected to vote on a bill today that would make moped and scooter riders wear helmets. The legislation, which was sponsored by Sen. Kathy Klausmeier (D-Baltimore County), also requires the scooter to be titled and registered.

The bill also calls for eye protection is if the moped or scooter doesn’t have a windscreen or windshield.

A similar bill was introduced last year, but was referred to the House Environmental Matters Committee for further study.
