Residents at a senior living facility in Southeast Washington say Monday's fatal stabbing is just a glimpse at some of the deeper issues they've been dealing with recently.

Officers were called to Arthur Capper Senior at 900 5th Street SE at 3 a.m. Monday for a report of a stabbing inside the building.

When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a stab wound to the torso. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

One resident told News4 the victim was a younger man, not a senior citizen. According to that resident, the victim was a relative of another resident, he and his friends hung around the community often.

Police have not released the victim's identity.

While some family members says they still trust that their relatives are OK, several residents who wanted to remain anonymous told News4 there is a problem with young people being in the building, intimidating some of the residents who live there.

"We have some elements in here that should've even be here," one woman said. "I've been jumped on before."

The community is run by the D.C. Housing Authority. Several residents say they have raised their concerns with management before, and they're hopeful they'll start to see some changes.
