Man Shot and Killed in Northeast D.C.

Victim shot in the head

Police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in northeast Washington Thursday evening.

The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. near the intersection of 10th Street NE and Gallatin Street NE. Investigators said an adult male was shot in the head.

Police say the victim was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

The victim was identified as 19-year-old Francisco Orlando Rivas of Hyattsville, Md.

Rivas had been distributing fliers for Papa John's pizza.

A witness described him marching single file down the street with his hands behind his head and two others behind him.

“The guy in the front reminded me of a soldier had been captured,” R.O. White said. “Had his hands folded behind his head with his elbows extended, and that would let you know he had been captured.”

Soon after seeing that, White heard a gunshot.

Rivas's family said he had just started working in the pizza business to support his 2-year-old son.

Investigators did not have any details available on possible suspects or a motive in the shooting.
