Man, 59, Drowns in Pool at Montgomery County Home

A 59-year-old man drowned in a pool in the backyard of his Derwood, Md., home Sunday, according to Montgomery County police.

Police received a report of a drowning in the 7000 block of Needwood Road about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Authorities said they attempted to treat the man at the scene before taking him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Mojtaba Tehrani Kia.

According to a preliminary investigation, Kia had been doing yard work in the backyard for several hours. A family member looked out and saw him lifeless in the pool.

He was found wearing swim trunks, and a towel and his sandals were located near the pool.

There is no suspicion of foul play, police said. The chief medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
