Grandma Robbed by Phony Grandson
A Stafford County woman was recently bilked out of $2,700 by someone pretending to be her grandson, police said. Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said the woman got a call Thursday from a man who called her "Grandma." When she asked who he was, he gave the name of her grandson. The man, who the victim said sounded like her grandson, told her that he'd been in an auto accident in Canada and needed money to bond out of jail. He said he tried to reach his father but was unable to do so. (Fredericksburg.com)
Judge Allegedly Stalked by Ex
Days after D.C. Superior Court Magistrate Judge Janet Albert broke up with her girlfriend, the judge found her former companion unconscious in her attic, above her bedroom, with some food and an ice bucket fashioned into a makeshift toilet, authorities say. Investigators said Taylar Nuevelle had climbed into the attic through a door in Albert's bedroom closet and been there for nearly 24 hours, listening to Albert's telephone pleas to friends for help. Ft Hood Heroes to be Guests at State of the Union
Two police officers credited with stopping last year's shooting rampage at Fort Hood will be guests of the first lady during Wednesday's State of the Union speech. Sgts. Kimberly Munley and Mark Todd will watch President Barack Obama's address with Michelle Obama in a gallery overlooking the House floor. On Nov. 5, the officers opened fire on Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who is accused of killing 13 people in the worst mass murder on a U.S. military base. Munley was wounded in the incident. (Washington Examiner)
Local Man Wins on Wheel of Fortune
Efim Shapiro registered for a "Wheel of Fortune" tryout on the off-chance he'd get called back. Not only did he get that call, he became a contestant and won "a cool prize," to be revealed on tonight's show. Shapiro, 30, of Middletown , would not say what he won, but said it was better than the minimum $1,000 prize contestants get. He received a little bit of cash and the prize, he said. Shapiro and his wife plan to gather with neighbors to watch the show, taped Nov. 20 in California. (Frederick News-Post)
