Former Obama staffer hosts swearing-in viewing event near U.S. Capitol

If Barack can do it, why can't one of his former campaign staffers?

Gabe Cohen, who spent 20 months campaigning for Obama, led a swearing-in viewing event near the U.S. Capitol Saturday.

It was a do-over for those were shut out of the original ceremony.

As reported by The Washington Post, Cohen and his mother, Judy Marks, were among thousands of purple- and blue-section ticket holders who were denied entrance to Tuesday's inauguration ceremony after waiting for more than five hours.

So Cohen, who lives in Denver and worked as a field director and state director in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Pennsylvania, took matters into his own hands to "make the best of an unfortunate situation."

He initially invited his mother and friends to today's unofficial event, and then posted an announcement on a Facebook page called "Survivors of the Purple Tunnel of Doom," which has more than 4,500 members.

Cohen and the crowd that joined him gathered as close to the steps of the U.S. Capitol as possible, watching the ceremony on laptops and listening to it on iPods.
