Hundreds Take to the Capital to Protest Iranian Government

Hundreds of people took to D.C. streets Saturday to protest against the actions of the Iranian government.

Protesters want Washington to condemn what they call human rights abuses being committed by the Iranian government.

Demonstrators began at the United Nations office in downtown D.C. and planned to march to the National Mall for a rally. They were calling for human rights in Iran and for an end to recent violence following the country's June 12 elections, according to organizers.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi protested after the elections, claiming he was robbed of victory. They accuse Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of winning through fraud.

The event was among dozens of solidarity rallies that were held worldwide.
