WASHINGTON -- This isn't just another wag-the-tail story: The Obamas are getting a dog in April.
The target date for the arrival of the family pet is after the president's daughters' spring break trip in April, though 7-year-old Sasha is convinced the dog is coming April 1, first lady Michelle Obama told People magazine.
Mrs. Obama said she favors Portuguese water dogs. The family is looking for a rescue dog that matches the family dynamic, MSNBC.com reported.
The family has been going back and forth on possible names. Among the two Mrs. Obama mentioned -- and nixed -- were Frank and Moose.
President Barack Obama and his wife had promised their daughters, Sasha and 10-year-old Malia, that they would get a dog if he was elected president.
The first lady confessed her surprise at the country's interest in what kind of dog the family will get.
The interview with Mrs. Obama will appear in Friday's edition of People.
