Fairfax County Police Believe Three Sexual Assaults May Be Related

Police believe the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl Thursday morning may be related to two prior incidents.

In each incident, a man wearing a plain red baseball cap fondled his victims.

โ€œThe person ran up, grabbed them from behind, touched them inappropriately and then ran off,โ€ said Lucy Caldwell, of Fairfax County police.

In the latest incident, a 17-year-old girl was walking on the sidewalk in the 5900 block of Erving Street about 9 a.m. She described the man as either Asian or Hispanic in his mid-30s, standing about 5-foot-8 with a black, close-cut beard. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and a black cotton sweatpants with a white stripe on each side.

On Sept. 18, a 16-year-old attacked about 2:45 p.m. while walking on a path in the 6700 block of Metropolitan Center Drive in Springfield. Police said that suspect was described as a Hispanic man with a thin, black goatee or beard and wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt.

The first assault took place Sept. 7 in the area of Old Keene Mill Road and Springfield Boulevard. The 26-year-old victim described the man as Hispanic and about 5-foot-6.
