D.C. Public Schools Unveil New School Scorecards

New online tool offers public more info than ever before, chancellor says

District of Columbia Public Schools unveiled new online "scorecards" for all of its 119 schools.

Chancellor Kaya Henderson said the goal is to provide what she described as "a more holistic view" of what's happening inside each school building -- both good and bad.

The public will find information about student performance -- including test scores -- student growth, whether parents and children feel their school is safe, and how well a school communicates with its surrounding communities.

“Each of our schools is unique and dynamic,” Chancellor Henderson said in a written statement. “As District families research the array of school options available to their children, those scorecards will help them make informed choices that take into consideration a range of factors – not just location and test scores.”
