D.C. Paramedic on Paid Leave Pending Investigation

Investigation into elderly woman's death

A D.C. paramedic is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the death of an 87-year-old woman.

It happened about two weeks ago after DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services checked in on a woman experiencing abdominal pains.

A source familiar with the investigation said the paramedic who arrived decided the woman's condition was not serious enough for to accompany her to the hospital.

Paramedics routinely stay with the patient.

The woman later died of an apparent heart attack, although her official cause of death is still being determined.
