Delegate Norton's Car Hit by MPD Cruiser

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and a D.C. police officer were both on a collision course this weekend.

Norton says she was returning home from Eastern Market on Sunday, when a Metropolitan Police Department vehicle hit the front end of her Ford Fusion Hybrid, the Washington Post reported.

Norton tells the Post that she and officer were both cordial and apologetic. She also says the officer regretted that their first-ever meeting happened that way. No one was injured in the accident that happened on Eighth Street in Southeast, but Norton says it attracted plenty of neighborhood interest.

The officer told Norton that he had his sirens turned on, but she told the Post that she did not hear them. A police spokesman said that he did not have details about where the police car was headed, how fast it was going or whether the sirens were turned on.
