D.C. police believe they found the car used by the men who killed a 10-year-old girl on the steps of her own home.
The Infiniti sedan was found in Oxon Hill, Maryland, police said Wednesday morning. An exact location was not immediately available.
On Monday evening, Makiyah Wilson was fatally shot in Northeast D.C. just after getting ice cream.
She had recently completed fourth grade and was enjoying her summer break, her grandmother said.
About 8 p.m., four men jumped out of a car in the 300 block of 53rd Street NE and opened fire in all directions. Wilson was fatally struck. Four other people, including the girl's 18-year-old sister, were shot and wounded.
Police say more than 60 shots were fired before the men got back in the car and sped off.
"When she actually passed and took her last breath she was laying right there in front of her doorway," Wilson's mother, Donnetta Wilson, told News4.
Danntta Wilson said she panicked when she saw her daughter bleeding and she held Makiyah in her arms during her final moments.
"I held my baby," Donetta Wilson said. "The whole time she just kept saying, 'Mommy, calm down. It's burning.'"

Makiyah's loved ones and neighbors are reeling as police search for the suspects.
"Makiyah, she was special," Pandora Wilson said. "She loved football; she loved all kinds of sports."
Wilson said her granddaughter was the youngest of four siblings and loved her family. She had recently celebrated her 10th birthday.
"It's so hard to put it in words because it don't feel real, you know?" Pandora Wilson said. "It's so senseless."
Police camera footage shows the moments the masked gunmen pulled up to the courtyard and opened fire while families were outside.
"At 8 o'clock at night, this is a full courtyard. It's full of children, it's full of families," said Wilson's cousin, Raven Hall.
Pandora Wilson got a devastating call from Makiyah's mother.
"Her mother called me [at] like 8 o'clock, and she was screaming that she was dying and I had to get here, but by the time we got here, they had already taken her away," Wilson said.
The family pleaded for the suspects to come forward.
"God's gonna see that they get their justice," Wilson said. "They are gonna have to answer for it, whether it's down here or up there."
