Man in His 80s With Wheelchair Falls Onto Metro Tracks

A man in his 80s using a motorized wheelchair fell onto the tracks at the Fort Totten Metro stop Tuesday, according to Metro officials.

The man had a pre-existing medical condition and told another person on the platform he felt dizzy before rolling the motorized wheelchair onto the tracks, Metro officials said. There was a train in the station at the time, Metro officials said.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services was called to the scene and succeeded in rescuing the injured man, Metro officials said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Metro officials.

The Fort Totten stop, which is located on the Yellow and Green Lines, remained open and ran a single track between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., Metro officials said. All operations are back to normal.
