3-Month-Old Baby Seriously Injured in Crash With Suspected Drunk Driver: Police

A 3-month-old baby was seriously injured after the jeep he was riding in was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver in Waldorf, Maryland, Maryland State Police say.

The crash happened in the area of Route 301 and Pierce Road at 3:48 p.m. Monday.

Michael Maurice Ford, 49, was driving his box truck southbound when he hit a jeep that was coming to a stop at a red light. The force of the crash sent the jeep into the side of a Nissan truck that was stopped in front of it.

State troopers were called to the scene and noticed the odor of alcohol while talking with Ford. Police say Ford failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.

The driver and front seat passenger of the jeep were treated for minor injuries, but a 3-month-old boy who was in the backseat was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

His current condition is not known.

The driver and passenger in the Nissan truck were also treated for minor injuries.
