2 Arrested for 2009 Arlington Co. Death

Two people have been arrested for the December 2009 murder of a man who was found stabbed on a street in Clarendon.

Arlington County Police last week arrested Roger K. Clark III, 20, of Severn, Md., and Javon Martin, 24, of the District, and charged them with murder. They are pending extradition to Virginia.

The body of Diener, 57, was found in the early-morning hours of Dec. 29, 2009, in the 3200 block of N. 13th Street, very close to the popular area known for its nightlife in Arlington.

Diener was a government retiree, who frequently got up early and walked to his part-time job at a local fitness club.

"I am extremely pleased with our detectives' investigation," said Arlington County Police Chief M. Douglas Scott in a statement. "It illustrates that there are no 'cold cases' in Arlington; we continue to investigate crimes long after they occur."

Officials did not immediate release details on what led to the arrest.

Diener’s death was a shock to the Clarendon community. His family, friends and concerned business owners collected $25,000 for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of his killer. They also held several vigils and benefits in his memory.
