17-Year-Old Pleads Guilty in September Shooting of Cab Driver in Alexandria

Cab driver suffered permanent injury

A 17-year-old Virginia boy pleaded guilty to shooting a cab driver last September, the Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney’s Office said.

Troy Vann, of Fairfax County, who was already a convicted felon at the time, entered Izedin Ahmed’s taxi armed with a handgun in the early morning hours of Sept. 22. He demanded money before shooting Ahmed’s upper body multiple times near Alexandria’s Foxchase Shopping Center.

Ahmed almost died and stayed in the hospital for two months. The 47-year-old suffered permanent damage to his lungs and a shattered right shoulder.

Vann admitted to the offense several hours after the shooting.

Vann pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a concealed weapon.

He was charged as an adult and is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 28. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison for aggravated malicious wounding.
