NBC Universal, Inc.

Two separate shootings in D.C. on Saturday left a man dead and another man wounded, police said.

The first shooting happened at around 1:20 a.m. in the 4400 block of Falls Terrace SE. D.C. police said they pronounced a man dead on the scene, but did not provide his name or a potential motive for the shooting.

Just before 5:30 p.m., another man was found shot at 4th and K streets NW in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood, according to authorities.

"My girlfriend called me frantically and said she had heard what sounded like gunshots and then looked out of the window and saw a man lying still, not moving," a neighbor said.

D.C. police said when first responders arrived, the man wasn’t breathing and was taken to the hospital. He is now in critical condition.

Kajohn McCombs, 21, of Northwest D.C. was arrested. Authorities said he is only facing weapons charges - for allegedly carrying a pistol without a license. D.C. police are still investigating what lead up to the shooting.

Police said they believe there was an exchange of gunfire between two groups of people known to each other.

The man shot remains hospitalized.

Neighbors said they were surprised to hear the news.

"I’m used to this place being so safe and so secure and to hear that there was a shooting that happened here in Northwest on K street, like what’s going on there?" Ashley French, who lives nearby, said.
