Man Killed; Woman Injured in SE DC Shooting

One man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a shooting in Southeast hours after Mayor Muriel Bowser led a group of D.C. residents to an anti-gun rally.

Police responded to reports of gunshots on the 2300 block of Raynolds Place about 9:45 p.m. Saturday and found D.C. resident Anthony Smith suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.

EMS treated him on the scene and he was sent to a hospital, but Smith was later pronounced dead. He was 33 years old.

The woman was found about a block away on Bruce Place, also suffering a gunshot wound. She was hospitalized with injuries considered not life-threatening, police said.

Authorities said they were looking for a 6-feet 2-inches tall black male with curly hair. He was wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans, police said.

Smith was killed hours after Mayor Bowser and D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton spoke at the Rally for DC Lives about the need to reform gun laws.

This year, 21 people have been killed with a gun in D.C., according to police data.
