GW Adopts Green Campus Living

University holds green festival

George Washington University recently held a green festival to set the tone for the new school year.

GW is one of many colleges in the area that are adopting green living on campus. University President Steven Knapp said the school is trying to go green every way it can.

At the recent eco fair, Casey Pierzchala and Samantha McGovern started an eco challenge for the dorms. The dorms are competing to conserve energy and water.

Green GW, the largest environmental group on campus, has lobbied to get more recycling, more CFL bulbs and more green information into the hands of students -- the generation that many say will feel the real effects of global warming.

The university also recently started an institute for the analysis of solar energy.
