Wizards center Jason Collins received an outpouring of support for his brave admission Monday, announcing in a Sports Illustrated article that he is gay. He became the first active player in the four major North American professional sports leagues to come out.
Collins's teammates and players from around the NBA praised him for his courage, as did fans, who went about showing their support in a different way.
The Wizards report that 100 percent of personalized jerseys ordered from their online store yesterday were "Collins 98" β Dan Steinberg (@dcsportsbog) April 30, 2013
Of course, two jerseys could have been sold Monday, but you get the point.
In the article, Collins said that he does not sleep well, "but each time I tell another person, I feel stronger and sleep a little more soundly." Hopefully, he can finally rest knowing that he has been accepted for who he is.
