William Balfour To Remain In Custody Following Parole Hearing

William Balfour will remain in custody in connection to the Hudson family murders, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Balfour, who has been identified as a “person of interest” in the slayings of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew, has been in custody since October 24 on a parole violation.

He has not been charged in connection to the murders.

However, the Illinois Prisoner Review Board ruled on Monday that there was reason to believe Balfour had, in fact, violated his parole and as a result, would be kept in custody.

Had the review board not found evidence the 27-year-old had violated his parole, he was scheduled to be released on Monday.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Jorge Montes, chairman of the review board, said Balfour’s girlfriend said that she had seen him with a gun that matched the murder weapon – providing the board with enough reason to keep Balfour in custody.

Additionally, the board ruled Balfour’s June 19 drug arrest was also enough reason to keep him in custody, despite the fact his parole was not revoked at the time.

In a previous article by the Chicago Tribune, Balfour allegedly admitted to his girlfriend he was involved in the murders of Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother Jason Hudson. However, Balfour’s girlfriend reportedly told police that he was not involved in the death of Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew, Julian King.

During Monday morning’s hearing, Balfour objected to the evidence police were using to hold him in custody. He was not represented by an attorney during the hearing, according to the Tribune.

The next hearing to determine if Balfour should remain in custody for violating his parole has been scheduled for December 3.
