Virginia Student Charged With Making Threat Against School

POWHATAN, Va. (AP) — A Virginia high school student has been charged with making a threat against the school on social media.

The male student at Powhatan High School was charged with making threats to commit serious bodily harm to persons on school property.

A statement released by Powhatan County Public Schools to parents Thursday called it a “vague threat.”

The Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation revealed that the student lacked the immediate means to carry out his threat.

The sheriff’s office worked with social media companies to identity the author of the post Wednesday night.

Authorities did not identify the student because he is a juvenile. He is being held without bond at the James River Juvenile Detention Center pending an initial appearance in court.
